This study classifies currently traded products into 4 stages of export specialization product category, absolute import specialization product category, products with weak competitiveness and products subject for trade protection. For this categorization, this study used import/export data ranging from 2000 to 2008 using TSI, export growth rate index, TSI with India and RCA.
The dynamic analysis on Korea’s TSI to India shows increasing competitiveness in petrochemical and rubber products, basic metal products, precision machinery products, other transportation equipment and other industrial products. Also import specialization increases in agriculture & fisheries, beverage food and tobacco, mining products and non-ferrous products. Timber & paper, general machinery and equipment, electronic equipment and components and automobile are products with export specialization but the competitiveness of those products are on decline.
