The purpose of this study was to provide fundamental data in lumbar stabilization exercise program to improve in 32 patients of L4-L5 and L5-S1 with herniated intervertebral disc through change of lumbar extension strength and visual analogues scale body composition factors according to the lumbar stabilization exercise. For this study, the subjects were performed for 60 minutes per day and two times a week during eight weeks, and paired and independent t-test was performed at the 0.05 level of significance. The results were as follows; 1) There has been an increase in the soft lean mass in body composition test, and body fat, body fat mass, body mass index was a decrease after exercise of patients. 2) The lumbar stabilization exercise tests were significant at all angles of patients. 3) The visual analogues’ scale tests were significant of patients. According to the results as presented above, lumbar stabilization program is the functional improvements of the lumbar spine, and gives effective pain relief. Furthermore, this program will help improves the muscle strength and balance ability. The results will serve as an important information when treating herniated intervertebral disc patients.
