Park, Jeong-Ho. A Study on Style in The Old Man and the Sea. The New Studies of English Language & Literature 49 (2011): 49-64. It is said that The Old Man and the Sea is the most outstanding work of Hemingway’s works. The reason is that the work includes the peculiar style theory: iceberg theory. It is the basis of the varied styles and the philosophical background of his sentence technique. Hemingway made his various artistic techniques on the basis of iceberg theory. His style includes simplicity, rhythm, image technique, symbolic expression, painting technique, forward and backward movements of the narrative pattern, space language, and unsaid sayings. His successful techniques have been applied to the work, so that style, technique, and structure of the work have reached the stage of prose poem. (Woosuk University)
