Effective usage of the English language has always played an importnt role in tourism business transactions, due to the characteristics of the global tourism industry in which English is usuany the main means of communication between native tourism workers and foreign visitors. However, English is still considered as a language barrier for most Korean students, with some reasons commonly given such as the different grammar structure, pronunciation, and so on. Cultural differences as contributing factors to the language barrier is a topic that has been less-studied, although it is both important and easier for Korean students to learn English after understanding the cultural differences behind Korean and English. From this perspective, this study aims to discover that cultural differences form a basis for significant language differences between Korean and English, particularly in expressions of tense, verb, and possessive forms. This theory has been examined through questionaries. This study attempts to academicany prove with these results that there have been significant culture and language differences between Korean and English that have made Korean learners encounter difficulties when they learn English. Therefore, for effective communication in the tourism industry fields, understanding this Westem culture should be included as one of the English learning courses, or within them, to minimize the communication errors that have frequently been caused by these cultural differences.
