The natural disaster like heavy rain, heavy snow, and drought has been rarely occurred in the past. However, recently the trend of natural disaster is getting changed by time goes on due to global warming in world-wide area. It is necessary to protect irrigation infrastructures by geosynthetics from an erosion failure which is caused by the natural disaster with localized torrential downpour. In the types of failure in hydraulic structure, they are overflow, erosion, unstable embankment, and collapse of structure. Geosynthetics are being applied in the hydraulic structures like breakwater, seawall, earth dam, rockfill dam, lake, river, canal, and land reclamation for protecting structure from erosion type. Several case histories of geosynthetics used for filtration in breakwater using geotextile, cover protection in embankment by geocell, waterproof in canal by geosynthetic clay liner, and protection of dam by geomembrane have been reported. Geosynthetics are extensively utilized in the slope protection of dike, embankment, and dams. Quality improvements of geosynthetic materials are being progressed with the development of technology and combined technology with other materials are very useful in drainage, waterproof, and filtration.
