Seoul mayor election held on October 26th was a significant incident.
It not only appeared to be a prelude to the general and presidential election which will take place at the next year, but also by combining with "Ahn Cheol-Soo Syndrom", it was a matter of the fundamental restructuring of party politics or not.
Briefly, current party politics is the creature of political compromise built from the pro-democracy movement on June, 1987. It can be said the current party politics is the reproduction structure of "1987 regime". In this structure, deadlock, hostility and alliance has appeared continuously among parties.
However, the order of party politics which enabled this is about to face a radical change.
The paper has focused on two aspects regarding the implication of the Seoul mayor election. First, is (developmental) dissolution of the Democratic Party possible? Dissolution of the Democratic Party means "re-politicalization of the regions" which is way beyond current The Grand National Party against the Democratic Party" structure. Second, is it possible to legally institutionalize political reproduction of minor parties including progressives? It means whether the party politics, which has excluded labor sectors till now, can create a new order of party politics institution throughout the discussion of unifying opposition parties and the political process arriving to the next year"s general and presidential election.
