Popularizing the Korean literature or, in other words, keeping the public pay attention to researches on that literature requires, above all, quitting what we, Koreans used to do in the past, that is, using the Korean literature based on nationalism to satisfy the feeling of national superiority. Going beyond capital and national power that hold back human life, research on the Korean literature should ultimately orient the restoration of such universal values of the makind as equality, peace and freedom, and environment. In doing so, it could be successful to popularize the Korean literature.
Specifically, it is needed to have research on the Korean literature more professionalized, find lots of different contexts based on which literary works in Korean are interpreted and attempt a variety of writings avoding a current climate in which Korean literature researchers concentrate only on publishing theses. In addition, experimenting with various literary styles would be a way to make the Korean literature closer to the public. Furthermore, interfacing between the Korean liteature and other disciplines or art, with the former centered, should be attempted, extending the horizon of research on that
literature. All these moves would help popularize the Korean literature, this researcher hopes.
