The purpose of this study was to search for multi-dimensional approaches towards the increased cultural competence of university students, by analyzing relations between their cultural competence and its concerned variables. For that purpose, the investigator first examined cultural competence, the characteristics of its concerned variables, and relations among the variables and empirically analyzed the factors affecting the cultural competence of university students. The subjects include 493 students attending one of two four-year universities in Daejeon and Chungnam Province. As a result, there were significant differences in national identity, value orientation, and cultural sensitivity according to the degree of the cultural competence. The results of hierarchical regression analysis reveal that changes to each of the models were checked by introducing a new group of variables in each stage. Then the influences of the concerned variables including national identity, value orientation, and cultural sensitivity on multicultural competence were tested through the influence and significance of the variables and the changing explanatory power of the entire models.
