Here, we firstly developed transparent bumblebee box for colony foundation or sale. This combination box made by transparent PET (Polyethylene terephthalate) film was easily observed bumblebee behavior within the box, and provide reduction of labor costs and production of good colony using separation bar. The developed combination box consists of main box, box cover with hole for feeding and ventilation, oviposition dish treated with bee wax, separation bar, tapered tube and plug for flight openings, sugar water box, and cover to protect contamination. The colony development in developed combination box was similar to that of existing box. However, the cost of developed transparent bumblebee box was over 60% cheaper than that of existing box. These results indicate that the newly developed combination box could serve as an effective box for the oviposition and colony development of bumblebees, suggesting that the combination box will ultimately expand the use of bumblebees for crop cultivators.
