Report Errors
This paper analyzes international competitiveness of automobile industry among Korea, China, and Japan. We calculated labor productivity, R&D investment share to total output, export market share, trade specialization index, and revealed comparative advantage index as the measures for international competitiveness. The results are as follows. In the aspects of labor productivity and R&D investment share, Japan’s position is higher than Korea and China. According to indexes using trade data, Korea looks less competitive than Japan. However, the regression results, which controls economy size and automobile production size, show that Korea is more competitive than Japan. China’s international competitiveness is very low compared to Korea and Japan, but its competitiveness in automobile industry, particularly in automobile parts sector, has increased very fast.
