At present there are a meaningful archaeological collection are accumulated at Balhae sites in Primorye. These artifacts increase our knowledge about activities of Balhae people, about their material and spiritual life.
This paper deals with description and analysis of arts and crafts of Balhae population resided in VII-X centuries in Primorye. It was investigated different kind of decorative items: the religious and cult sculpture, the architectural decorative elements, ornaments and adornments. We touched on such problems as religious view and aesthetic preference, the main direction of cultural relations, the chronological and social aspects.
The preliminary results from this research are following. The decorative arts of Balhae people can be divided into two parts ? buddhistic and folk arts. At the Balhae buddhistic arts the Koguryo and Tang artistic traditions are reflected. The art and crafts demonstrate the traditional folk artistic style.
Some decorative items wich were found at the archaeological sites of Primorye looks like articles from Balhae capital sites. It means that they could be brought in Primorye from Balhae central areas.
Some decorative items can be used as status and prestige attributes (jade adornment, belt ornaments). And the belt ornaments and various design of roof-endtile disks can be investigated in order to discover their capabilities as chronological and cultural contacts indexes.
