In this study, effect of bell mouth geometries to flow rate in centrifugal blowers were numerically simulated using a commercial CFD program, FLUENT. Total twelve numerical models were created by combining different value of bell mouth radius and gap between bell mouth and upper fan case (The cross surface of ball mouth was fixed to round shape in this research). All models were meshed with hexahedra elements using Gambit software. Frozen rotor method combined with Realizable k-spsilon turbulence model and non-equilibrium wall function was used to simulate the three-dimensional flow inside centrifugal blowers. The CFD investigation showed that the bell mouth radius had strong impact on flow rate, which can vary more than ten percent with different bell mouth models, while the effect of gap between bell mouth and upper fan case to flow rate was weaker. Base on CFD results, experiments have been carried out for typical bell mouth to verify the effect of bell mouth radius and gap between bell mouth and upper fan case to flow rate. The CFD results were thereafter validated owning to the good agreement between CFD results and experiment results.
