The purpose of this study was to identify the differences in the recovery of muscular function in knee joint according to application time of exercise rehabilitation program(ERP) after anterior cruciate ligament(ACL) reconstruction, and to present the clinical information on optimal application time of ERP. Participants were 14 ACL reconstruction patients, and divided into two groups: early ERP group(EG) in which ERP was applied at 2nd week after ACL reconstruction, and late ERP group(LG) in which ERP was applied at 8th week after ACL reconstruction. ERP consisted of flexibility, aerobic, isometric, isotonic, balance, isokinetic exercise was applied for 8 weeks, 3 times a week, 60~90 min per time. Muscular function was repeatedly measured with isokinetic dynamometer at 4th and 8th week after application of ERP. As a result, extension strength in uninvolved side, extension and flexion strength in involved side, bilateral balance ratio in extension and flexion, extension total work in involved side were significantly increased in EG. Extension strength in involved side, bilateral balance ratio in extension were significantly increased in LG. In conclusion it was seemed that the sooner the better in ERP for the recovery of muscular function after ACL reconstruction. And it is suggested that ERP should be applied after ACL reconstruction.
