Objective: This paper introduces a work domain analysis for the information display design based on ecological interface design in APR+ (Advanced Power Reactor +). Background: The display method in conventional NPPs (Nuclear Power Plants) mainly relies on the type of P&ID (Piping & Instrumentation Diagram), and represents the plant information directly without processing of the sensor outputs. From the cognitive engineering viewpoints, plant information display is significant contributing factors to NPPs accidents considering situation awareness, decision making and proper operator’s task. Due to the lack or excess of the information, the operators in NPPs could not understand the overall relationship between the objective and operator’s control; it leads to be a human’s cognitive decision burden and human error. The cognitive information display based on EID (Ecological Interface Design) is developing to apply into APR+. Method: In this paper, we propose the work domain analysis in the cognitive task analysis process, which is an abstraction hierarchy to deal with the relationship between objective and means, to design the cognitive information display for control tasks, e.g., water level control of steam generator and pressurizer. Conclusion: Proposed cognitive task analysis, which is including work domain analysis and procedure based task analysis, shows the effectiveness when represents the operator’s task to designing the cognitive information display in NPPs.
