In this study, I try to analyze Royal Banquet which was one of the ways to operate state affairs and relating royal power in late Goryeo, from King Gongmin to King Gongyang. Royal Banquet was the banquet in which king offered foods and liquors. The main purpose of Royal Banquet was having fun by sovereign and subject (or the ruler and the ruled) altogether. At that time, Royal Banquet consisted of Yeon(宴, general banquet), Gogyeon(曲宴, small banquet), Hyang(享, banquet which is conducted by subjects for king), Chijoo (置酒, banquet for drinking in free mood), Po(?, banquet for the people at the events of national congratulations) and Hyang(饗, banquet for seniors, poor and lonely people who don’t have family, and devoted sons and daughters). Also Buddhistic ceremonial parties such as Lotus Lamp Ceremony (Yeondeunghoe), Assembly of Eight Prohibitions (Palgwanhoe) and Manjusri Assembly (Munsuhoe) were held. The installation and implementation of Royal Banquet meant the restoration of royal power. However, the criticism about Royal Banquet began to grow. The matters such as having party by the person in power(as Sin Don), not Royal Banquet expense, king’s private party for amusement and treatment for the envoys from Ming China were suggested. Someone suggested that Buddhistic ceremonial parties were unnecessary and useless. The demand to settle these matters was strengthen as the effort to accept and practice Neo-Confucianism was developed. It became one of the main justifications for change of dynasty.
