Conceived to commemorate the tenth anniversary of "Literature and Environment," this paper set out to investigate the theories of ecological literature and their achievements and tasks in South Korea. The theories of ecological literature that have been discussed with emphasis include relations between nature ad man, issues of community and class, Oriental ideology and autogenetic ecological ideology, and issues of desire and ecological ethics. Despite such discussions, however, they were usually used as critical criteria and deteriorated at an alarming rate by failing to build a new paradigm since life ideology. In South Korea, the theories of ecological literature need to make rapid responses to the changes of the times, identify the current issues accurately, and evolve into a sophisticated logic as a virtue of practice.
