This study investigated the satisfaction of high school students per type of food service system of school dinner meals. From Aug. 31st 2010 to Sep. 13th 2010, three high schools among those in the Daegu area that provide school dinner meals with the conventional/contracted system (141 students) along with three schools with the delivery/contracted system (151 students) were surveyed. The subjects were 128 male students and 164 female students, with 115 in year 1, 101 in year 2, and 76 in year 3. The overall satisfaction level for the conventional/contracted system was average, but the delivery/contracted system was very low. The satisfaction level for taste along with the opinions regarding cooking method or preferred foods did not show significant differences between the two systems, whereas the types of leftover foods did produce significant differences. It was found that the conventional/ contracted system should improve menu variety, whereas the delivery/contracted system should improve taste. For the above issues, the students reportedly made no suggestions regardless of the system. Based on the above study, to raise the satisfaction level for school meals, the conventional/ contracted system should improve the quality of the food while the delivery/contracted system should improve taste as well as dishware sanitation, and quality of food.
