“The textual research of Laws of Nine Dynasties(九朝律考)” is about Law development of nine Dynasties which is based on a textual about law development of nine Dynasties before Tang Dynasty wrote by Chen Shude. Therefore, the book includes almost every historical material about a juridical relation from acient China. It is very hard to find a textual described about Law development before the Tang Dynasty as clear as like this.
“The textual research of Laws of Nine Dynasties” which includes the primary law of Han to sui, the nine dynasties will contribute to many research organization to understand better not only about Primary law in China but also Primary law of East Asia countries such as Korea and Japan. Cheng Shude’s "Some Records on the Laws of Nine Dynasties"is a very famous and important book in legal-history study.
The name of ‘lu(律)’ begins in the Qin Dynasty. In Han Dynasty, The distinction of ‘li(禮)’ and ‘lu(律)’ were not very strict. Also, In the Qin-Han Dynasty, The distinction of ‘lu(律)’ and ‘ling令’ were not very strict. But In the Wei, Jin, and Southern and Northern Dynasties(魏晉南北朝) period, the distinction of ‘lu(律)’ and ‘ling令’ were very strict. Even now, Cheng Shude(程樹德)’s opinion of ancient China ‘lu(律)’ and ‘ling令’ has been accepted as the most important theories. In spite of minute Cheng Shude(程樹德) careful study, historical investigation and justice in the ‘lu(律)’ and ’ling(令)’ was not solved, there have been much controversy continues.
