Designing of manufacturing system is one of important decisions that determine the efficiency of the system. This paper focuses on the facility layout design of flow line that involves the positioning of bays, facilities and corridors in order to minimize material flow distance between facilities. In this paper, a heuristic algorithm based on simulated annealing is presented. The position of the bays is determined using simulated annealing and slicing tree approach in the first step. In the second step, the facilities and corridors are designed in the bay. The proposed algorithm is programmed by C++ and computational results show that the proposed algorithm can generate reasonable layout solutions.
