The purpose of this study was to investigate start motions for efficient swimming performance by using estimated equations for prediction of swimming distances after start to show efficient swimming start motions for improved performance. In this regard, 9 male of the national swimming team for over 7 years were selected as subjects. Moreover, 3 start motions mainly used in swimming, GS, FTS and RTS, were measured and analyzed. The results are as follows. The fastest response was shown in RTS to be regarded as a more efficient method for improved records. Moreover, the longest swimming distance was recorded in GS. For angular changes in main joints of the lower limbs, the greatest angle was shown in RTS, in view of hip joint with the center of gravity kept back to the maximum for explosive driving force. Knee joint and ankle joint also achieved repetition maximum by using both feet, as same as GS. For changes in angular velocity, opposite motions of flexion and extension were shown to allow physical changes before and after start easy. Moreover, for swimming distance from start according to an estimated equation for prediction of the pure swimming distance in view of the body, FTS was more influenced by horizontal elements, as compared with vertical elements.
