This study examines the differences in the financial characteristics between law cost carriers and full service carriers in the airline industry. Financial ratios of 19 carriers from 1997 through to 2009 are examined to determine the differences between them. Independent samples T-test is conducted to test for differences in the financial characteristics. The main results are that law cost carriers have higher liquidity and profitability than full service carriers. In the financial characteristics, Full service carriers have been examined not to have the stronger points against low cost carriers in spite of their economies of scale. The study implies low cost carriers seem to get more airline market by their financial strength against full service carriers.
