Human beings find their identities in the correlations with others. Having relationships with one another makes human beings active and passionate in their ordinary lives. It is true that desire playes an important role in motivating our lives. Human desire is one of the most inevitable parts that cannot be eliminated. When it is acknowledged that the very desire lies on the bridge between one’s empirical life and ego, it is agreeable that anyone cannot be free from one’s own desire. Although people usually realize that desire affects them all the time and the historical progress positively, it is a fact that desire would be regarded as something negative. Human is a being that desires something through one’s whole life. Therefore, we should insist not on the ascetic life involved in religious taboos but instead on the capability which enables us to control our craves.
This study aims to confirm how Jeung-san interprets human desire and demonstrates the way of self-cultivation for humans themselves to take only good rather than evil. At last, it proves that our desires or cravings should be transfigured toward passions and aspirations. Jeung-san emphasizes self-cultivation by sincerity, reverence and belief. Sincerity, reverence and belief must be three cores which are absolute attitude to be prepared for controlling one"s desire and establishing proper self-cultivation manner. Self-cultivation by sincerity-reverence-belief would be a kind of mind control which is not deceiving oneself. Based on this, one can determine good or bad for what he/she want to get and returning to human nature avoiding from frustrated wants as well as enabling self awareness voluntarily. The three letter of sincerity-reverence-belief is a absolute value and concept which is accomplished in the process of cultivation as getting more deepening.
