This article aims to analyze Jeong Hyun-Jong’s ‘Solo Dance’ through cognitive analytic method. Metaphor and metanomy is the center of this study. Text is interpreted by this metaphor and metonymy, which interact with each other.
Cognitive poetics has discussed metaphor and metonymy so far. But metonymy has not received so much attention as metaphor. The significance of this article is to try to apply metonymy as cognitive poetic methodology. Another significance is to try to find out the importance of the interaction of metaphor and metonymy.
Firstly, language sign of ‘Solo Dance’ is dualistic. Surface aspect is the confrontaion of upper versus down and light and darkness. There are conflicts of affirmation versus denial and wealth and poorness. These language signs are scattered throughout the whole text. The aspects of metonymy are revealed language layout and distribution.
Secondly, the cognitive structure of ‘Solo Dance’ transcends time and space. Part 1 of this poem exerts to solve the inner pain and conflict by soaring in the air. Part 2 expresses the joy of freedom after conflict solution. These ascending structure opens new poetic space. All creatures complete transcendental poetics craving freedom there.

The pattern of ‘metaphor-metonymy’ which represents cognitive inclination appears.
