Philosophical counseling focuses on saying about a series of stages such as, “to make one understand essence of situation where one stays”, “to make one contemplate on oneself”, “to let one seek answer oneself.” The core point of treatment through philosophical counseling is that it is not to use some external power but to use power which is hidden inside one’s own existence. From this viewpoint, it can be said that zhouyi is a book that includes most meanings of philosophical counseling. It would be worth to discuss if zhouyi has a useful function of philosophical counseling ? zhouyi brings various interpretations. Here, the author tried to mainly deal with possibility of working of fortune telling named The number of the total(Dayan) which is a tool for diagnosis and treatment. The most distinct characteristic among functions zhouyi has is that zhouyi provides advice or material for meditation which make us to reflect on ourselves in daily lives through 64 hexagrams. This does not mean that a certain hexagram directly interprets a specific behavior. The content heard from a hexagram can be referred to only. Through reflective analogy, such hexagram tells a series of stages like “to make one understand essence of situation where one stays”, “to make one contemplate on oneself”, “to let one seek answer oneself.” Zhouyi lets client strive and be enlightened so that the client can revise and correct one’s own problem. That is, Zhouyi is very excellent Philosophical counselor. Philosophical counselor, based on general capacity everyone has, not special knowledge, helps client so that the client can explore oneself to find an answer. Zhouyi does not give answer to people but provide necessary guidance only.
