The present study explores discourse strategies of quoting and constructing dialogues in English twitter cyber communication from pragmatic discourse analysis perspectives. This study first briefly introduces Twitter, which is explained as an online social networking service and micro-blogging service that enables its users to send and read text-based messages of up to 140 characters. Based on the previous studies, this paper then discusses the concept of participation framework and the notions of quoting and constructing dialogues. Investigating how and why participants in English Twitter produce direct speeches and quotations, this paper examines three types of constructed dialogues with their 10 subtypes with reference to the participation framework. Exploring the distinctive features of Twitter, this study confirms that quoting and constructing dialogues on English Twitter are discourse strategies for various interactional goals.
