The present study aimed to investigate the effect of changes in crutch length on lower limb moment; in the study, 10 healthy young men (22.30 士 3.85) were asked to walk with crutches. The statistical program SPSS 18.0 was used to analyze 3 motions appropriate for the purpose of the study. A one-way repeated ANOVA was employed to validate the average difference relative to variable factors of kinetics; a post-hoc Duncan test was also conducted. The level of statistical significance was set to a= .05. A comparative analysis with five classes of crutch length conditions(124, 127, 130, 133, and 136 cm) yielded the following results. In the present study, the maximum flexion moment and maximum extension moment of action points that took place during crutch gait exhibited no difference according to the changes in the crutch length. When a 3_cm increase and decrease based on the ideal crutch length (130 cm) proposed by Bauer et al(1991) were effected, the load on the right lower limb joint showed no change, whereas when a 6_cm increase and decrease were effected, the maximum dorsiflexion moment applied to the right crutch joint increased or decreased, impacting the maximum flexion moment of the right hip joint Accordingly, a 3_cm increase or decrease from the ideal crutch length during crutch gait was deemed to have no correlation to the load on the lower limbs; however, making greater adjustments to the length increases or decreases the moment applied to the lower limbs and might lead to an inappropriate force being applied to the lower limb joints during crutch gait.
