We demonstrate preparation and evaluation of individual dispersions of various single walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs), which are synthesized by electric arc discharge, catalytic chemical vapor deposition, and high pressure carbon monoxide methods, dispersed by using a biocompatible chitosan derivative, chitosan hydroxyphenylacetamide, as an efficient dispersant. We propose a new spectroscopic parameter for quantitative evaluation of individual dispersion of SWCNTs and present the optimum ratio of SWCNT to dispersant for high quality individual dispersion of each type of SWCNT based on the proposed parameter.
