The high strength steel (HSS) is widely used in auto body part due to its advantage of weight reduction. The usage of HSS extends the range of contact pressure than that of mild steel’s and makes it is not disregardable fact that the effect of contact pressure on frictional characteristics of steel sheet. To investigate the influence of contact pressure on frictional behavior of steel sheet, the flat type friction test with high strength bare steel sheet was conducted under various contact pressures. According to the test result, the relationship between contact pressure and friction coefficient shows U shape. When the contact pressure is lower than 10㎫, the friction coefficient was slightly decreased as contact pressure was increased. However the amount of decrement was very small. Above 10㎫ contact pressure the friction coefficient was increased as the contact pressure was increased and the amount of increment of friction coefficient was not negligible. This study shows that the effect of contact pressure on frictional behavior of steel sheet is very big, especially on HSS stamping which has the wide range of contact pressure.
