The purpose of this paper is to analyze a variety of Korean translation phenomena of English passive construction based on the text type. Target text has specific purpose and function depending on the source text type. This paper largely analyzed Korean translation aspects of English passive construction in the informative text and expressive text. In each text, 70 English passive constructions were extracted. The rate of Korean passive construction is 55% in the informative text. Informative text is needed objectivity and preciseness of the content with politeness and formality. Recently, Korean passive construction has been more used than before in written text. Therefore, it is more likely to keep fidelity of source text following the literal translation strategy. However, in the expressive text, the rate of Korean active forms is more than half(60%) of total translation. Also readability strategy including free translation is more used in Korean version. In conclusion, Korean translation of English passive could be rendered into active voice or passive voice based on the purpose and function of source text type.
