This study examines “Kan-Go-Kai-Wa(韓語會話)”(1904), Korean Textbook for Japanese learners with a special focus on the organization of the book and Korean pronunciation description in the textbook. This paper raises two key points. First, Writer of “Kan-Go-Kai-Wa(韓語會話)”(1904) was not mere railroad company staff, but a student sent abroad at state expense in 1896. From this fact, we acknowledge this textbook as a research material for Modern Period"s Korean language. Second, “Kan-Go-Kai-Wa”(1984) shows impressive description about korean pronunciation at this time. Other Korean textbooks for Japanese learners at same period did not show as such.
The pronunciation descriptions of “Kan-Go-Kai-Wa(韓語會話)” also give us two important facts. First, the writer of “Kan-Go-Kai-Wa(韓語會話)” knew well the pronunciation errors committed by Japanese learners. Second, phonological(or phonetic) change ‘ㅅ’+‘ㅑ, ㅕ, ㅛ, ㅠ’ is described as a mistake done by korean people at this time. But that is not just speech errors. It reflects real pronunciation of Modern Period"s Korean.
