The purpose of this study is to refine conception and characters of family-centered practice for children with disabilities. This study have six factors about the family-centered practice. The definition consists of focusing on the family as the unit of attention, a family choice, a family strengths, the partnership with family, a comprehensive service, and a individualized family service. And then search the conditions of family-centered practice for children with disabilities in Korea. However it is not clear not only exactly what family-centered practice for children with disabilities but also how to practice in social agency.
Family-centered practice is traditionally a different way to view the relationship between family and service delivery system. It encompasses the belief that the family is the center and the service providers are collaborator. The service coordinator is respectful of a family"s choice and continuously seeks the services to meet the need of family. Also, the social worker should support families by providing opportunities for participation.
There is collectively required for implementing family-centered practice for children with disabilities in social agency such as to legalization as national policy, agency administrative change, social work"s training, strengthening curricula of practice with family. We need to understand the concepts of family-centered practice for children with disabilities. Additionally it need to discuss that each agency"s implementation family-centered practice for children with disabilities.
