There has been a steady decrease in the death and injury rates all over the world because the demand for a more structured and systematic functional safety design of electric/electronic (E/E) components in the automotive industry is increasing greatly with more electronically controlled systems becoming more widespread in automobile applications. The recently (15th Nov 2011) introduced standard “ISO 26262: Road vehicles ? Functional Safety”, is the functional safety standard outlining the activities to be followed for development of an Automotive Electric/Electronics system. Hyundai MOBIS has already produced safety critical systems in chassis domain such as airbag, ESC, EPS. Thus safety processes are not a quite new process for us, but our company may not insist that previous approach was very systematic for safety projects. Therefore, Hyundai MOBIS has updated functional safety processes based on the company own matured process asset since 2010. Furthermore, Hyundai MOBIS has some experiences for product development in compliance with ISO26262 as previously mentioned. Two ADAS projects had the certifications from TUV SUD successfully. I would like to introduce one of them, SCC (Smart Cruise Control) system, in this paper. Actually, all parts in functional safety standard are important, but a large portion among them is related to Safety Analysis. Therefore, this paper shows how safety analyses are effectively applied to product development lifecycle in MOBIS through the example of Smart Cruise Control (SCC).
