The purpose of this study was to investigate how the Art Nouveau style was expressed in eating and drinking spaces in foreign countries with a focus on those spaces in Prague. The investigator personally visited seven of the restaurants and cafes recommended by six traveling guide books from June 30 to July 8, 2010. Those research efforts led to the following conclusions and suggestions: first, the restaurants and cafes that adopted the Art Nouveau style in Prague emitted a strong feel of Art Nouveau from the exterior with those expressions concentrated on the gates; secondly, the interior seemed to keep the original state intact, but the chairs and props either failed to be in harmony with the space or even contained shapes and materials distant from the space; and finally, the prevailing organic form was plant vines with a nature motive, and the geometric forms characterized by repetition used the same theme from the ceiling to the walls, furniture, and lighting. In short, while the Art Nouveau style examined in Prague had a sophisticated exterior, the interior did not live up to the following expectations with particular problems with the choice of chairs and props.
