Chinese political culture in the Chinese Cultural Revolution was packed with the term of Marxism and Leninism. However, it had similar structures like Chinese traditional culture. In the era of Chinese Cultural Revolution, viewpoints that grasped Chinese history as the history of struggles between Confucian scholars and Legalists were spreading in the society. In that atmosphere, Mao Zedong was packed with the image of the First Qin Emperor(or Qin Shi Huang). It was corresponded to revival of Confucian dictatorship that was intended to break down during the era of Cultural Revolution.
Enthusiastic personality cult on Mao Zedong displayed similar social phenomenon with relations like ‘Emperor-subjects’ or ‘Father-son relationship’ when stating correlations between Mao Zedong and people. Ancestor worship rituals originated from Confucianism were reflected to personal worship in the era of Cultural Revolution. Worships on emperor-ancestor-father was followed to Mao Zedong=emperor=father, and thus ‘the tradition of ancestor worship’ was reappeared actually.
Moreover, Mao Zedong made the communist revolution successful, and then let Chinese people released from poverty and suppression, and thus realized egalitarian society. Resultantly, Mao Zedong was considered as an same existence as traditional religious ‘Messiah’ or Maitreya Buddha to Chinese people. That is, the tradition of ‘Messiah’ religion was being revived again. Ultimately, the Cultural Revolution tried to opposite and destroy Confucian tradition, but it was rather reviving as similar forms with the tradition.
