Recently the lack of one person housing has become a social problem because the population of single households has been increasing rapidly and the housing quality for university students is poor. The purpose of this study is to propose the importance of spaces and types of small housing for university students. This study surveys 188 university students living in the metropolitan area. The conclusions are as follows; 1) There are nine small housing types. 2) Small housing for university students is necessary to distinguish the space for particular features, i.e. study room, living room and dining room 3) It is necessary to develop safe and secure small housing types. 4) It is necessary to develop various storage spaces for university students. 5) It is necessary to consider ventilation, view and light in small housing for university students.
