This work aims to investigate the changes of wage distribution for urban workers from year 2000 to year 2008 and the factors explaining changes over time using Korean Labor and Income Panel Study(KLIPS) data. For this purpose, we employ unconditional quantile regression approach proposed by Firpo et al.(2009) and sequentially apply Oaxaca-Blinder decomposition to regression results. This procedure allows us to evaluate and decompose the impact of worker’s endowment level and the valuation of endowments (price effect) on any quantile of wage distribution. Moreover, this method provides a simple calculation of contribution of each explanatory variable to the decomposition. Empirical evidence shows that the effect of endowment valuation contributes more than the effect of endowment level to the change of wage distribution. Also these two effects widen wage inequality over time. Specifically, the change of wage distribution is caused most by the change of education level and the change of return to job experience. Job experience and education are most influential factors to widen wage inequality with respect to both endowment and price effects.
