The present study has been conducted the effect of the nitrite concentration on the corrosion properties of a carbon steel in district heating system. Passive film was formed in district heating system containing nitrite. The corrosion potential of the carbon steel pipeline shifted in the noble direction and the corrosion rate decreased with increasing nitrite concentration. However, carbon steel pipeline in synthetic tap water containing low level of nitrite concentration was more susceptible to localized corrosion.
