This paper proposes a hybrid account for the V -v complex in Korean. I argue that Korean V-V complexes are subcategorized into two major types. Type 1 V-V complex is formed in syntax, whereas Type 2 in lexicon. The lexical nature of Type 2 V-V complex is attested by a set of wordhood tests - insertion of short form negation (SFN), negation scope, coordination, passivization, which however fail Type 1 V-V complex. A special case of Type 2 V-V complex is introduced with a defective verb as V1 in the formation. Assets of the proposed analysis are generalized effects that are missing in previous accounts for V -V complexes in Japanese and Korean.
