The fact that the research articles on Medieval Europe published over 60 every year in Korea since 2008, and similar phase appears in 2011~2012, shows the research of Medieval European History to be in prospering recently. As much as research participants were diversified from historians, philosophers, and theologians to linguists, scholars of literature, artists, and musicians, it can be said that the perspective of medieval studies largely expanded in Korea.
In the period of 2011~2012 it can be felt the research of medieval studies by scholars of history to be more active than before in some aspects as follows.
First, not only the articles on political history increased in number during this period, but a new trend of politico-cultural approach created a great sensation in medieval studies.
Second, diverse social historical studies increased in this period. Full of curiosity on the life and living cultures of general people which were reflected in chess, seals, folk stories, and chants swayed the concern for upper classes such as kings, nobles, and priests.
Third, the level of quality on medieval studies was elevated so much especially in researches of feudal society, Black Death, and ordeal.
Fourth, non-European aspect in medieval studies tried to take over the occidental view. Byzantium and Islam world which were treated as a marginal being or strangers in western history moved to the center of concern through the study of their internal changes and interactive relations to Europeans.
Since medieval studies were performed by various scholars in as much as scholars from history, it is desirable their scholarly results to be cooperated through the presentation of historical society.
