Nowadays, in order to achieve competiveness, many construction companies need to enhance productivity, reduce the duration and cost of construction, and manage various business processes and related information on the entire lifecycle of construction projects. In particular, most civil projects are performed by various stakeholders under a distributed environment and separate workflows. Because of varying needs, business processes, and diverse engineering activities such as design, structural analysis, simulation of installation, and document and data management, a new paradigm for construction companies is needed to manage and share the entire workflow and information in the entire project lifecycle. Thus, an integrated managements system for establishing collaboration is strongly required for the entire project lifecycle to reduce the time and cost and identify the status of work and integrate related engineering information. PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) is an innovative manufacturing paradigm that leverages e-business technologies to allow a company’s product content to be developed and integrated with all company business processes through the extended enterprise. Although PLM originated from the manufacturing sector, it is also applicable to other industries. Therefore, in this paper, we have developed a Web-based PLM system that is suitable for civil projects. This system is for more effective and integrated management of business work processes and various kinds of engineering information across an entire civil project. Also, it supports collaborative work processes with the management of detailed task lists, a well-defined workflow model, and various information models for the target project. Lastly, this Web-based PLM system provides an integrated and collaborative environment for distributed stakeholders.
