We have examined some critical issues for the present and future of korean catholicism. Firstly, for the past fifty years from 1962 when a catholic hierarchy was constituted until now, is remarkable the religious growth of catholic church, e.g. the number of believers, priests and various religious establishments. But in that crazily rapid development a ambivalent phenomenon can be noticed. So to speak, the apparently paradoxical but consequential tendency of quantitative expansion and qualitative decline is engaged in it. Secondly, we questioned the so-called "social doctrine of catholic church" that has been considered as an icon of protector for korean democracy. The last issue was about catholic pentecostal movement which has been disseminated among the poor and lower class believers. We think that those three issues could be a kind of religious barometer for forecasting the future of korean catholicism.
