From 2003 to 2008, most of the modular buildings were school and military facilities. Public demands of school and military facilities for shortening construction period and reuse of modules were opportunities of application of modular construction.
Recently modular constructions are used for not only public sectors but also residential, commercial and exported buildings. This paper reviewed some cases of residential modular buildings in Korea an UK.
Two domestic residential modular buildings were completed in 2013 and 2014
These case studies show that they have the advantage of short construction period, higher utilization of the small downtown land and reducing of construction complaints.
For the continuous expansion of the domestic market for residential modular buildings, improvement of residential performance, development of high-rise structural system and reasonable improvement of codes and standards should be made.
