‘The internal development’ in terms of perspectives and attitudes has been made in accordance with the realities of the three countries of Northeast Asia, Korea, China, and Japan, in the 1960s. North Korea accomplished the academic system of Joseon history for the purpose of explaining the legitimacy of the establishment of its socialist state and based on this standard, it defined and criticised the colonial view of history. While critically reviewing the colonial view of histories, Japan and South Korea have formulated their own new history. Comparatively, members of chosenshigennktukai(朝鮮史硏究會) reviewed the colonial view of history more critically than Korean researchers did.
The Korean residence in Japan and Japanese researchers acted as mediators, connecting the scholarship between South Korea and North Korea. The networks between North Korea and Japan were formed through the structure of organizations. The academic achievements of the other party was officially and systematically examined. Because the connection between South Korea and Japan was focused on their direct and separate relations, overall reviews have not been fully made.
The greatest achievements in the research on the Korean history in the 1960s lie in the interpretation that there was feudalism in the history of the Korean peninsula and Joseon was once a state of feudalism. Accordingly, the late Joseon Dynasty is explained as the dissolution period of feudalism. However, they could not overcome positivism history of academic power and three-disciplinary system of colonial legacy without through self-introspection. Therefore, there was naturally some restriction in the space of the formation of democratic publicness, transcending colonial publicness.
