This study was carried out to analysis in the nutritional intake and blood iron status by exercise type in female college athletes. The group of subjects was divided into two group according to the sports practiced: sprinters (n=10) and swimming player (n=10). Nutrient intakes were obtained a self-reported questionnaire and 3-days recall method (2 weekdays, 1 weekend). Also anthropometric data and iron parameters related to iron-deficiency were obtained. The mean age, height, weight and career were 19.35±1.57year, 168.45±5.1O㎝, 61.45±8.33㎏, l00.80±16.70month. Results of this study were as follows: 1) The female college athletics reported energy intake and Korean dietary reference intake (KDRI) were total 1841.42±526.73㎉/day, 19.94%, total 1407.03±209.25㎉/day, 38.82%, respectively. 2) The ratio of contribution by carbohydrate, fat, protein to the total energy intake were 52.05 : 30.77 : 16.61, 41.13 : 22.83 : 12.29. 3) The sprinters and swimming players were lower dietary niacin and vitamin C intake. However, calcium and iron did not meet the KDRI in the players. 4) The sprinters hemoglobin (Hb) concentration and red blood cell (RBC) were significantly higher compared to swimming players. Therefore, nutrition education and action program are needed to prevent elite female athletes’ health problems such as iron-deficiency and to improve athletic performance and nutritional status.
