The purpose of the study was to examine the effects of a 10-week combined program of Hatha and Raja yoga on fatigue in daily life, physical fitness, and cardiorespirdtory function in middle-aged women. Twenty middle-aged women were volunteered to participate in this study as subjects, and they were randomly assigned to either yoga group (YOGA: n=10) or control group (CON: n=10). The subjects in YOGA undertook the combined program of Hatha and Raja yoga for 60 min/session, three sessions per week for 10 weeks. The subjects in CON were asked not to change their normal life style during the same intervention period. Main results of the present study were as follows: 1) Body weight, BMI, fat mass, percent body fat, WC, and HC decreased significantly in YOGA. 2) Degree of fatigue in daily life decreased significantly in YOGA. 3) Muscular endurance and flexibility increased significantly in YOGA. 4) VO₂max increased significantly in YOGA. 5) Elasticity of blood vessel tended to be improved in YOGA. It was concluded that the combined program of Hatha and Raja yoga for 10 weeks would have positive effects on body composition, fatigue in daily life, physical fitness, and cardiovascular function.
