Sacbrood virus (SBV) causes a disease of honeybee larvae, resulting in failure to pupate and death. The typical symptom of SBV is an accumulation of SBV-rich fluid in swollen subcuticular pouches. The SBV found in Apis cerana, South Korea had led to the A. cerana perishment of 75%. According to the alignment result of SBV complete genome sequences that were reported at NCBI, SBV is characterized into 3 genotypes based on genetic diversity of SBV nucleotide acid sequence. To develop PCR method, we designed the specific primer sets, and developed the PCR method for characterizing 3 genotypes of SBV. This PCR method may be helpful for further diagnosis of SBV in Korea.
