The oil viscosity is very important clues to apprehend of engine oil condition and it have closely relation with oil life time on vehicle. The oil viscosity change is mainly effected by fuel dilution volume and water flow in engine oil surge tank and fuel dilution decreases oil viscosity and water dilution increases oil viscosity. Fuel dilution can occur when misfired fuels are mixed with engine oil in combustion chamber and it increases oil consumption volume because of lowered oil fresh point. In case of diesel vehicle, fuel dilution decreases viscosity more than gasoline vehicle because the boiling points of diesel fuel are partially over lab with engine oil and also repetitive fuel regeneration for PM reduction to meet enhanced emission regulation effects to decrease oil viscosity. On the other hand, water dilution is effects to increase oil viscosity by oil oxidation acceleration at high temperature conditions and it cause of poor cranking operation on vehicle at cold-start conditions. So, in this study the estimating method of oil condition have been proposed through oil viscosity change by the mixed volume ratio of fuel and water in engine oil and analysis of the quantitatively mixed oil sample with fuel and water and analysis of tested oils by durability test mode on engine dynamometer were carried out oil properties evaluation in lab. The test results were used in making fuel dilution chart and water dilution chart and the quantitatively mixed water emulsion oil properties were evaluated after storage for 6 months at lab temperature and analysis of the emulsion composition by Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopy and Spectrometer confirmed to improve reliability for test results.
