Despite the rapid growth of the international marriage between Korea and American unions in the US, little has been known about their leisure patterns related to the marriage. Thus, the goal of this study was designed to explore leisure patterns of married couples between Korean wives and American husbands. Six couples were selected and twelve semi-structured interviews were conducted with six Korean-American couples between April and July in 2009. Participants were recruited mainly in a medium-size Midwestern town, except for two couples who were residing in a large city in the Midwest of the U.S. The couples participated in a variety of leisure activities. The interviewees revealed that changes in their leisure were related to change in marital status, changed environment, as well as changes related to immigration to a different country and being married to a person of different cultural background. While informants mentioned they are constrained by factors related to their marital status and international spouse, shared leisure provided spouses an opportunity to learn about each other"s culture, master new social environment, and improve marital satisfaction.
