Vehicle plate recognition is a unique combination of characters and numbers to identify plate of the vehicle. Now a day the demand in security related services has become higher importance. It is an image processing technology used in many applications like road rule enforcement cameras, close circuit television, parking system identification and etc. This paper illustrates the detection of number plate in various situations. In this algorithm we have three main steps, firstly vehicle image is captured and then re-size it. Next, image covert into a grey scale image and then complement of that image. Second, apply canny edge detection. Third, apply Hough line transform for rectangular plate detection in an image.
