This paper examines the overall framework and structure of 『Kehongyinyi可洪音義』, its references, and how they are cited in the 『Kehongyinyi』. During this process, it was possible to study the forms and contents of 『Xindingyiqiejingleiyin新定一切經類音』, 『Jiangxiqiandadejingyin江西謙大德經音』, 『Xichuanhoudashijingyin西川厚大師經音』, 『Changyunheshangyun?筠和尙韻』 by Guoyi郭?, which are usually overlooked in other studies. Lastly, the paper closely looks at, and organizes, the examples related with phonetic notation among the predicates used in 『Kehongyinyi』.
It is likely that there have been more buddhist glossaries when Kehong可洪was writing 『Kehongyinyi』 than today. However, these lost glossaries would have been very limited in use. Futhermore, it is regrettable that contemporary books show little evidence of the glossaries, since they were neither in common usage nor popular. However, it is fortunate that their usage can be found through 『Kehongyinyi』, which was almost lost in the past. Additionally, the predicates are noteworthy in that they were uniquely used by Kehong and not included in other glossaries. The predicates used by Kehong would have been the words used at that time rather than being limited to his exclusive use. This paper, by examining this aspect, was able to discover predicates that have been unknown until now.
